Fulbright ON: Steve Wilson

Fulbright ON, a podcast series run by Fulbright Scholar and Alumni Ambassador Daris Hale at Texas State University, captures the offbeat stories and courageous personalities of Fulbright Scholars as they recall how they taught, researched, and managed their families in a foreign environment.

In this episode of Fulbright On, Hale interviews Steve Wilson, an English professor at Texas State University. As a 1994-1995 Fulbright Scholar to Romania and a 2001-2002 Fulbright Scholar to Slovenia, Wilson taught American Literature at the University of Cluj in Romania and University of Maribor in Slovenia.

In the podcast, Wilson shares anecdotes from his Fulbright experiences, discussing what surprised him in the classroom, a meaningful connection at the American library in Romania, and how his family adjusted to living abroad.  “I think the ripple effect is to come back to an institution and your enthusiasm lets people know that [Fulbright] can be invigorating, and life changing, and make you a better teacher just by being there and talking about it,” he says.
